The Evansville Community School District is transitioning to a targets-based learning, assessing, and grading system. This approach is an effective strategy that aligns learning targets to Wisconsin standards with the intention of improving teaching and learning. Classroom core instruction – the most important type of instruction – is designed to reflect not only standards, but also specific academic targets that clearly identify what students should know and what they should be able to do every lesson and every unit in every content area and at every grade level. We are confident that this model will allow parents and students to clearly understand what children are expected to learn in class, and also provides them with feedback on progress toward specific targets.
