RE: Notice of District Academic Standards in Effect for 2025-26 School Year
Date: July 10, 2025
Wisconsin Act 55 (2015) requires school boards to provide notice of academic standards adopted under Wis. Stat. 118.30(1g)(a)1 that will be in effect for the upcoming school year. School boards are required to include this notice as an item on the agenda for the first school board meeting of the fiscal year. The new fiscal year began on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
At last night’s meeting of the Board of Education for the Evansville Community School District voted 6-0 to re-adopt the current Wisconsin Academic Standards and Common Core State Standards that will be in place for the 2025-26 school year.
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) apply specifically to English Language Arts (Literacy) and Mathematics (Numeracy). This website is searchable by content area, grade level, and standard.
Wisconsin Academic Standards address other content areas including Agriculture, Art, Business, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health, Music, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages.
The Department of Public Instruction has introduced a new scope & sequence for K-12 Civics standards in Wisconsin. However, these are suggested and not required or a part of the state standards yet. So, the school board will not be approving these Civics standards this year.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction states that academic standards “specify what students should know and be able to do in the classroom. They serve as goals for teaching and learning. Setting high standards enables students, parents, educators, and citizens to know what students should have learned at a given point in time.”
This notice has been sent to parents district-wide. The section on Student Academic Standards will be updated on the district's website on its Annual Notices webpage.
Questions regarding academic standards can be directed to Mark Schwartz, the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, at SchwartzM@evansville.k12.wi.us or (608) 882-3382.
